What happens to us when our minds are in overload? For one, it impacts our problem-solving abilities. As we noted during a recent Merit Management Group meeting, when we clear our heads of all the clutter, it’s easier to see the solutions and opportunities that exist within. Here are three practices that can support mental clarity:
1. Don’t Work Too Many Hours
While many people believe that working more hours makes them more productive, the opposite can be true. In fact, more hours put in can sometimes stymy progress. We’ve found around the Merit Management Group office that the key is to work smarter by improving time management skills to get more accomplished during a reasonable period of time.
2. Meditation and Reflection
One of the fastest ways to re-center our thoughts is through meditation. When we take time to sit and be mindful of our surroundings, our minds can stop racing through all that we have to do. We need to periodically clear our thoughts to find answers.
3. Make Sleep a Priority
During our Merit Management Group training, we emphasize getting a good night’s rest. Sleep rejuvenates us, which promotes clearer thinking. Proper sleeping patterns are always beneficial to our overall health and well-being.
